This Shabbos commemorates the 93rd yahrtzeit of the Rebbe's maternal grandfather, Harav Meir Shlomo Yanovsky, who passed away on 23 Elul 5693. A distinguished and learned Rav in Nikolayev, he also merited to be a “yoshev” by the Rebbe Maharash.

20 Elul marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Moshe Chaim Sapochkinski, who as a young boy met Rav Baruch Ber Leibovitch, Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzenski, and Rav Shimon Shkop, before joining the Lubavitcher yeshiva in Vilna and becoming a devoted Chabad Chossid.

13 Elul marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Yakov Yisroel Twersky of Cherkas, son-in-law of the Mitteler Rebbe and a descendant of Reb Nochum Chernobler. A remarkable story told by Reb Itche Der Masmid reveals the shidduch that connected the Chernobler and Lubavitcher dynasties, and its connection to Moshiach.

11 Elul marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Moshe Chaim Yehoshua Schneersohn-Twerski, the Tomashpil-Koidenover Rebbe, who lived just steps from 770. A great-grandson of the Mitteler Rebbe, he maintained a close connection with the Rebbeim and devoted his life to Taharas HaMishpacha and strengthening Yiddishkeit in America.

8 Elul marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Moshe Katznellenbogen and Reb Yosef Volovik, two generations of mesiras nefesh Yidden who became remarkable talmidei chachomim and Chassidim, keeping Torah and Yiddishkeit alive through decades of Soviet persecution and hardship.

24 Av is the yahrzeit of the gaon and chassid Reb Avrum Hersh Cohen, who was known for his dedication to the study of Torah and his hiskashrus to the Rebbe.

30 Sivan marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Sholom Marozov, a chossid who, despite his life of hardship, his greatness in Torah and avodah is mind boggling, and would have undoubtedly be glorified in other frum circles.

25 Sivan marks the yartzeit of Rabbi Eliezer Zirkind. Mrs. Tzippy Clapman remembers him for his unblemished avodas Hashem between man and Hashem and between man and man. 

24 Sivan marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Dovid Bravman, known for his deep hiskashrus to the Rebbe. Reb Dovid played a central role in improving conditions in Kfar Chabad, especially for the many new immigrant families who arrived there during the village's early years.

Reb Yosef Goldberg, whose yahrtzeit is on 22 Sivan, dedicated his life to Tomchei Tmimim. Many of the recent roshei yeshiva in Lubavitch were his talmidim.

17 Sivan marks the yahrtzeit of Reb Yisroel Jacobson, one of the most influential Chabad chassidim in America. He was responsible for strengthening Yiddishkeit, helping rescue chassidim from Europe and Russia, establishing mosdos, and inspiring generations of bochurim through his warmth, sincerity, and hiskashrus to the Rebbe.

Today, 16 Iyar, marks the yahrtzeit of Rabbi Arye Leib Kaplan, the “Lion of Tzfas,” a devoted shliach of the Rebbe who revitalized Yiddishkeit in the city. With mesirus nefesh, he built mosdos, led the community, and inspired thousands through his leadership, scholarship, and unwavering dedication to his shlichus.

Today is the yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yitzchok Avigdor Orenstein, a Lubavitch activist in the Old City of Yerushalayim, when his home was struck by a Jordanian bomb in 5708/1948.

Today, 12 Iyar, marks the yahrtzeit of Harav Chaim Yaakov Vidrevitz, a chossid of the Tzemach Tzedek and Rebbe Maharash, who served as rov of Moscow and later in New York, where he strengthened Yiddishkeit, especially kashrus and mikvaos, and was known for his genious and influence.

19 Cheshvan marks the eighth yahrzeit of venerated mashpia Reb Meilech Zwiebel, of Tomchei Temimim in Morristown, a maskil, gaon, oived, and extraordinary teacher.

20 Tammuz marked the 70th yahrtzeit of the great Lubavitcher gaon and posek Rav Avrohom Chaim Noeh of Chevron and Yerushalayim, shliach of the Rebbe Rashab to Bukhara, author of Ketzos Hashulchan, and master of the halachic measures.

11 Elul is the yahrzeit of Harav Shmuel Halevi Levitin, a devoted chossid, rov, and mashpia who served as the Rebbe Rashab and Frierdiker Rebbe’s shliach. He oversaw Tomchei Tmimim across Russia until his arrest and exile to Siberia. The Rebbe showed him great kiruvim and dedicated a sicha after his passing.
