Shabbos Bereishis sets the tone for the entire year. What does this mean? What should we be doing about it? How can we make this real and practical?
In Episode 2 of Chassidus Made Real, we explore the idea of creation on three progressively deeper levels:
- Hashem created the universe. It has a Creator and an Owner. יש בעל הבית לבירה זו.
- Creation is continuous. Every moment, Hashem brings the universe into existence מחדש.
- כח הפועל בנפעל. Ultimately, the existence of every created thing is nothing other than the Divine force within it bringing it into existence.
Achdus Hashem is one of the fundamental ideas of Chassidus. But how can we understand that nothing exists besides Hashem, while at the same time taking seriously the words בראשית ברא אלקים, that Hashem truly created a world? How can both be true at the same time?
In this episode, we explore how Chassidus understands the reality of creation, and how that very understanding leads us to the deepest meaning of אין עוד מלבדו.
We also look at why כח הפועל בנפעל is a chidush over התהוות בכל רגע, what this means in real life, and why it matters. Along the way, we address the question of whether Chassidus is only for the intellectually elite, and we share feedback from the last episode.
