R’ Chaim Shimon Marks, who became a baal teshuva as a teenager and was active in Mivtza Kashrus, passed away.

R’ Chaim Shimon Marks, who became a baal teshuva as a teenager and was active in Mivtza Kashrus, passed away.  

He was 66 years old.

Born in Puerto Rico, Chaim Shimon became a baal teshuva in his teenage years At first, he studied in the Ohr Someach Yeshiva, and he later became niskarev to Chabad, and attended his first farbrengen of the Rebbe in 5738.

He later began learning in Yeshivas Tiferes in Morristown, NJ, then Hadar Hatorah in Crown Heights, and later in Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in Brunoy, France.

As a bochur, he was active in the Rebbe’s mivtza to print Tanyas wherever Yidden live.

After his marriage, he was active in mivtza kashrus and the Rebbe’s other mivtzoim, and constantly anticipated Moshiach’s coming.

In recent years, he live in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

He is survived by his wife, Simcha Marks, and their children Rabbi Yitzchak Marks – Yerres, France; Leah Nagar – Toms River, NJ; Sima Cohen – Crown Heights; Shaya Marks – Manhattan, NY; Sheina Marks – Flatbush, NY; Esther Glanstein – Woodburn, NJ; Mendy Marks – Monsey, NY; and grandchildren.

He is also survived by his father, Mordechai Yaakov Marks, and his sister, Andria Berkowitz.

The levaya will take place in Crown Heights on Thursday, passing 770 at 10:45 AM, and continuing on to Yerushalayim, where kevura will take place on Friday morning.

  1. Shimon also lived in Miami Beach for a time, davening in Beis Menachem. He donated a yahrzeit plaque in memory of his mother, Leah, that I am honored to light every year. Simon was kind and serious about yiddishkeit. Sorry to hear of his passing.
