Rabbi Mendy and Mushka Grossbaum have been appointed to open the first Chabad center in Los Angeles’ Crescenta Valley.
The couple plans to move to the area, where they will serve the approximately one thousand Jewish families living in the city of La Canada Flintridge and other Crescenta Valley neighborhoods in November, providing it is safe to do so.
As they begin to build a Jewish community, their first project will be to open a Jewish preschool. “We believe engaging young families in the area will help us create the cornerstone for a new Jewish community at Chabad of the Crescenta Valley,” Rabbi Mendy told Lubavitch.com.
Both Grossbaums grew up serving their communities as Chabad emissaries—Mendy in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mushka, in nearby Glendale, California.
They have already begun connecting with individuals virtually and setting up Zoom Torah classes.
