The European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative (ESJF) has completed construction of an 830-meter fence surrounding the Haditch cemetery. The cemetery has 500 Jewish graves, most of them without a gravestone.
The fence was made of galvanized steel, and construction necessitated dealing with topographical difficulties and terrain conditions, since the cemetery is located on a mountain slope.
Since the land was not registered as a cemetery in the Ukrainian Land Registry, this was amended and the cemetery area was registered according to the law of the land.
Shliach Rabbi Meir Zvi Stambler, director of Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, congratulated the completion of the cemetery fencing.
Rabbi Shneur Zalman Deitch, shliach to Haditch, noted that “this cemetery has attracted many from all over the Jewish world for years.”
