The miracles we are witnessing in the past few days are beyond all proportions and defy nature.

Before Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, ministers were told to prepare for massive casualties. Military intelligence estimated Iran’s retaliation could (r”l) kill 800 to 4,000 Israelis in the first two nights. Yet less than five percent (!) of missiles and only one (!!) of over 1,200 drones made an impact. These are tremendous miracles of Hashem protecting His chosen people in Eretz Yisroel – “Eretz asher einei Hashem Elokecha ba.”

Baruch Hashem, it seems the huge threat to the Jewish people has, for the most part, been eliminated with the destruction of the Fordow nuclear plant on Shabbos.

What is even more remarkable is the incredible timing of these events. Many have pointed to the sicha where the Rebbe discusses the great power of every Jew on the auspicious day of 23 Sivan, when the decree of Haman was annulled. The Rebbe spoke at length on Parshas Shlach, 23 Sivan, 5743, explaining that it applies also to our times, while we are still in galus.

The Rebbe explained that on the 23rd of Sivan, after Haman’s downfall, “the scribes of the king were called” to write whatever Mordechai commanded – authorizing the Jews to defend themselves, overturning the decree of annihilation, and leading to victory and the celebration of Purim. Since Torah is eternal, this moment repeats every year on the 23rd of Sivan, when Hashem’s “scribes” are once again called – Hashem being likened to Achashverosh. Every Jew, like Mordechai, who bowed to nothing against Torah, is empowered on this day, even in galus and darkness, to write their own decree and see it fulfilled. We have the power to request what we want, and Hashem Himself grants our will.

The Rebbe added that: “When it will be ‘mentioned’ properly, it will actually ‘happen’ again anew. It will happen quickly and be brought down למטה מטה (below, below).”

“It will be והעיר שושן צהלה ושמחה—that not only the Jews in Shushan will celebrate, but the whole city in general, and ליהודים היתה אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר.”

What we have witnessed in the past days are tremendous miracles and the downfall of “Haman,” the person who set out to annihilate the Jewish people with his own weapons and by setting up proxy armies all around Eretz Yisroel, which have now been obliterated. This is all happening in the same country (Persia—Iran), בימים ההם בזמן הזה, right after 23 Sivan (when the final planning took place)! And the bombs came down למטה מטה—“below, below”!

Rabbi Yosef Minkowitz, Principal of Beth Rivkah Academy for girls in Montreal, Canada, noted an amazing thing in Targum Sheini on that possuk. When Mordechai met Esther at that time, he told her the possuk ברוך השם, שלא נתננו טרף לשיניהם (Blessed is Hashem who did not permit us to be prey for their teeth), and Esther replied with the possuk עזרנו בשם השם, עושה שמים וארץ (Our help is in the name of Hashem, the Maker of heaven and earth). Both pesukim are from the Rebbe’s kapitel Tehillim of this year (קכד)!

Additionally, the actual bombing of the Fordow mountain by the US, which helped eliminate the threat of annihilation on the Jewish people, took place on Shabbos, 25 Sivan – a day the Rebbe referenced often as the day the Jewish people won the debate and overcame the claim of the non-Jewish peoples (the Arabs, Egyptians, and Canaanites) who claimed Eretz Yisroel as theirs.

The Rebbe points out that the Jews won by standing strong in their claim that Eretz Yisroel is theirs because Hashem gave it to them, and the non-Jews fled, abandoning their houses and fields. This year, we merited to see how, by the strength of the Yidden standing firm that Eretz Yisroel belongs to them – not as grasshoppers in the eyes of the nations like the meraglim we read about on that same Shabbos, but rather like a lion – the US came to our assistance.

Some have pointed out the incredible use of these unique bombs, employed for the first time in history to penetrate mountains and destroy the nuclear threat, as described in Yechezkel (38:20) about what will happen in the end of days: “The mountains will be destroyed.” The Malbim explains that this refers to the great war and weapons to be used before Moshiach that will have the capability of destroying mountains.

Another notable point is the extensive use by both the American president and the Israeli prime minister of Hashem’s name, acknowledging that all these great accomplishments came directly from Hashem.

One thing is clear: We are witnessing enormous miracles and standing on the threshold of Moshiach. We need to thank Hashem for the miracles and do everything we can to usher in the complete geulah.

May the Rebbe’s words come true, as he said in the sicha: “When one properly ‘remembers’ the events of the 23rd of Sivan, then all those matters are ‘renewed’!” and ליהודים היתה אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר, “For the Yidden there was light, joy, gladness, and honor” – כן תהיה לנו!

We appreciate your feedback. If you have any additional information to contribute to this article, it will be added below.

  1. The US attack on Iran nuclear sites actually happned on Sunday, 26 Sivan, 3 am. The B-2 airplanes left their US base and flew towards their targets in Iran on Saturday.

  2. I wish I knew who originated the following insight: That the thousands of Israelis clamoring for a way to get back to Israel last week, the week of parshas Shelach, when air space was closed, was a tikun for the meraglim who did not want to enter the Land.
