In Emotional Return, Leviev Pledges Support for Crown Heights Mosdos
Diamond magnate and philanthropist Levi Leviev returned to Crown Heights for an emotional visit to 770, the Rebbe’s room and house, the library, and the Ohel, as he pledged new support for local mosdos.
Diamond magnate, investor, and philanthropist Levi Leviev returned to Crown Heights this week after many years away, arriving with his son, son-in-law, and daughter for a visit filled with memories of the brachos and guidance he received from the Rebbe, and of the decades of support for Jewish chinuch and Chabad life that followed.
The visit began at 770, where Leviev spent time in the place he had visited in earlier years and where his connection with the Rebbe had taken shape. From there, he continued to the Rebbe’s room, the Rebbe’s house, the library, and the Ohel, davening and reflecting on the personal connection that has accompanied his work for Jewish communities around the world.
During the Crown Heights visit, Leviev announced his support for local mosdos, continuing his longtime commitment to strengthening chinuch, shlichus, and the institutions that raise the next generation of Chassidim.
A moving moment took place outside 770, when Leviev met a group of 40 Russian-speaking women who had come to Crown Heights under the leadership of shliach Rabbi Alex Proshansky. He was deeply moved to learn that most of them were graduates of Ohr Avner mosdos across the countries of the former Soviet Union, and that today they and their families are part of Chabad communities.
Some of the women reminded Leviev of earlier visits he had made to the schools where they had learned years ago. At their request, he spoke to them and shared memories of his meetings with the Rebbe, describing the brachos and guidance he merited to receive.
For the women standing there, the encounter brought their own journey full circle. The mosdos that had given them a Jewish education years earlier were not only part of Leviev’s public work, but had become the foundation for Chabad homes and families now standing in Crown Heights, outside 770, thanking him in person.
The visit gave Leviev an opportunity to see the continued growth of Crown Heights and the enduring impact of the chinuch projects he helped support, from children who once learned in Ohr Avner schools to families now raising a new generation connected to Torah, Chassidus, and the Rebbe’s shlichus.
