New Doors, Sparkling Floors: 770 Readies for Tishrei
From newly refreshed benches to gleaming floors and renewed entranceways, 770 is already beginning to show the signs of the extensive preparations that precede Tishrei each year.
With thousands of Chassidim expected to converge on 770 for the Yomim Noraim and the month of Tishrei, preparations to receive the large crowds are already underway throughout the building.
Work began during the month of Av, when the wooden benches throughout the main zal were repaired and repainted. Damaged sections were fixed, worn areas were touched up, and the benches were given a fresh coat of paint.
Beginning around Rosh Chodesh Elul, the floors throughout the main zal underwent a thorough cleaning over several consecutive days. After being washed and scrubbed, large polishing machines were used across the floor to remove accumulated dirt and restore the surface.
Much of the work was carried out during the late-night hours, allowing the cleaning to proceed without interfering with the many daily minyanim and the regular sedarim of the bochurim in the central Tomchei Temimim.
The preparations come alongside the regular work of the gabboim, maintenance workers, and members of Anash who keep 770 operating throughout the year, cleaning the building, restocking supplies, and handling repairs as needed.
Among the other improvements completed this Elul, the worn doors at the main entrance leading into the large shul were replaced with sturdy new replicas. The installation was completed in time for Shabbos Parshas Ki Seitzei.
Additional work is expected in the coming weeks ahead of Rosh Hashana 5787, with further preparations planned as Tishrei approaches.
