Walk into almost any classroom and you’ll find the same thing on the wall: a calendar showing one month at a time. Turn the page, and last month is gone. For Rabbi Sruli Mochkin, a teacher at Lubavitch Hebrew Academy, that never sat right.

“You can’t really plan a year if you can only see one month of it,” he said. “I wanted to look at a wall and see the entire year at once, every month, every date, Hebrew and English. That way I could plan around everything instead of finding out about a conflict a month before it happens.”

So he built The Big Jewish Calendar. It’s a giant wall calendar that fits the whole school year onto one page, with every English and Hebrew date side by side. There’s no app involved. It’s a physical calendar you hang up, write on, and live with all year.

The calendar is dry-erase, and it comes with color-coded stickers. Teachers can use one color for birthdays, another for days off, another for tests or trips, whatever they need, and see it all across the full year instead of one month at a time.

Rabbi Mochkin originally made it for his own classroom. Since then, other teachers looking for the same kind of big-picture planning have started asking about it too. It’s now available for schools to order in bulk for their staff, with a discount for larger orders.

“Once you can see the whole year in front of you, you plan differently,” he said.
