A new musical initiative by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar, the well-known baal menagen behind the Ga’aguim project, offers a meaningful way to deepen one’s connection to davening through authentic Chabad niggunim.
Rabbi Amar has, to date, released over 80 traditional Lubavitcher niggunim, carefully restored and recorded in their original form, with more than one million plays across streaming platforms.
His latest release, titled “Davenen mit a Niggun”, is the first installment in a multi-part project. It features six segments from Shacharis, each set to a mellow Chabad niggun, sung in full – word for word – with precise alignment to the text of the tefillah.
These niggunim weren’t randomly selected, they are the exact melodies Rabbi Amar personally matched to the words of davening, and which are sung each Shabbos in his Or Menachem community in Ashdod, where dozens of mekuravim – many of whom have become full-fledged Chassidim – daven with deep feeling. This project now brings that heartfelt, soulful davening experience to the wider public for the first time.
Selections include:
- “Kulam Ahuvim…” is sung to Reb Hillel Paritcher’s niggun (No. 56 in sefer hanigunim ), continuing seamlessly into “La-Kel Baruch.”
- “Ve’ha’er Eineinu” from Ahavas Olam is sung to the classic Shabbos and Yom Tov melody (No. 84), with no instrumental backing.
- “Hashem Elokeichem Emes” after Shema, leads directly into the joyful “Yechidus Dance” niggun (No. 328), fitting the words “Veyatziv Venachon…”
- “Kel Adon” is sung to a farbrengen niggun by Reb Aharon Charitonov, which also flows into “La-Kel Baruch.”
- “Ram Venisa” before Shemoneh Esrei is paired with the stirring niggun by Reb Elchonon Zev Klagsbald, originally composed for “Odeh La-Kel.”
A number of leading mashpi’im – including R’ Zalman Gopin, R’ Fitche Ofen, R’ Chaim Sholom Deitsch, and R’ Mendel Vechter – signed a letter supporting the project of singing these nigunim in Chaabd shuls everywhere.
“We encourage this new initiative which brings ancient Chabad niggunim into davening in shuls and Chabad Houses. Its goal is to add spiritual and Chassidic depth to davening – awakening the heart and helping mispallelim connect through the unique power of niggun.”
