As tens of thousands of Jews seek a growing community nestled between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, Rabbi Yehoshua and Shayna Cohen, along with their son Mendel, are heading south to join Chabad of Pinellas County and help strengthen Yiddishkeit across the flourishing Gulf Coast region.
Rabbi Yehoshua and Shayna Cohen (née Swartz), with their son Mendel, are heading south to the Gulf Coast of Florida to join Chabad of Pinellas County.
Nestled between Tampa Bay and the Gulf, Pinellas County is home to a rising Jewish population, with tens of thousands of Jews looking to connect.
Born to a secular family, Yehoshua began growing in his Yiddishkeit at age 19. After spending many years at the Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies in Yerushalayim and Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch, he knew he wanted to give back the gift that was given to him—by the Rebbe and the Rebbe’s Shluchim.
Shayna grew up with her three siblings and dedicated parents in a Chabad House community in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Her role models, along with a formative year at Machon Shoshanat Yerushalayim, honed her passion for going on Shlichus.
The Cohens are excited to fulfill the Rebbe’s vision.
They will be spearheading Baby Café, Preschool, Chabad Young Professionals, and a Community Day School (Tamim Academy). They will be joining Rabbi Pinchas and Mushky Adler, who will be transitioning to focus on the growing Shul, Hebrew school, C-Teen, and general Chabad House programs. Pinellas County is primed to become a blossoming center of Torah, mitzvos, and Chassidishe warmth.
They invite friends and supporters to join them on this exciting journey, as they hope to dedicate their life’s work to help Jewish children and families embrace and actualize their Yiddishkeit.
