Rabbi Pinchus Levi Yitzchok “Pinny” Scheiner, devoted gabbai, beloved teacher, and mashgiach in the Detroit community, passed way on Monday, 24 Iyar.
Rabbi Pinchus Levi Yitzchok “Pinny” Scheiner, Gabbai, Beloved Teacher, and Mashgiach who was oisek b’tzorchei tzibbur b’lev v’nefesh, was niftar on Monday, 24 Iyar, 5786.
He was 63 years old.
He was the son of Rabbi Leib and Leah Yehudis (Edith) Scheiner, Shluchim in Boston, Mass., for over 40 years. He was a longtime active community member in Detroit, MI, where he filled many roles, including Gabbai at Beis Chabad of North Oak Park, Rebbi, Mashgiach, and a member of the Chevra Kaddisha. He was ready to help wherever needed and always with a smile on his face.
A staunch Chassid who took the directives and teachings of the Rebbe to heart and acted on them in the true fashion of a mekushar to the Rebbe, he would take time out from his busy schedule to distribute the Rebbe’s sichos in the local shuls weekly, spreading the light of chassidus to thousands.
He is remembered by all as a man who lived every day with true simchas hachaim and who always had something nice to say to make everyone comfortable, young and old alike. He had a knack for relating to people of all ages and stages of life and connecting with them on their level, and was a deeply loved and cherished zaidy to his many grandchildren, who adored him dearly. He taught in local schools for many years and, as a dedicated and caring Rebbi, took a personal interest in every student.
For many years, he also organized a lulav and esrog store out of his home, personally making the long drive to New York to bring them back. He was greatly beloved by all in the Detroit Community.
He is survived by his wife Chani Scheiner (nee Rabinowitz) and children: Mendel Scheiner (Philadelphia); Dudie Scheiner (Detroit, MI); Berel Scheiner (Detroit, MI); Menucha Baruch (Pomona, NY); Malkie Raskin (Laramie, WY); Rivkie Lishner (Crown Heights); Shmuly Scheiner (Detroit, MI); Chayale Zirkind (Crown Heights); Estie Scheiner; and Moishy Scheiner.
