As one of his first acts as mayor, Cincinnati’s newly installed Mayor Aftab Pureval signed a proclamation designating the Rebbe’s birthday on Yud Alef Nissan as “Education and Sharing Day”.
Rosh Yeshiva of Lubavitch Cincinnati, Rabbi Gershon Avtzon, and several of the Talmidei Hashluchim went to City Hall to receive the official proclamation.
The delegation was also received by the Vice-Mayor Mrs. Jan-Michelle Kearney, who was instrumental in the effort to rename the Yeshiva’s street “The Lubavitcher Rebbe Way”.
Impressed by her guests, the vice-mayor said that the City Council will soon vote on a legal resolution proclaiming 11 Nissan “Education Day”. This legal resolution will be shared with the entire Cincinnati Public School system.
Rabbi Avtzon was invited to City Hall to address the entire City Council on April 6th as preparation for 11 Nissan and Pesach.
