Rebbetzin Shifra Stone, a longtime educator and lecturer from Brooklyn and wife of Rabbi Avraham Stone, passed away on Sunday, 3 Elul.
Rebbetzin Shifra Stone, a longtime educator and lecturer from Brooklyn and wife of Rabbi Avraham Stone, passed away on Sunday, 3 Elul.
Rebbetzin Stone was a noted educator and Torah lecturer who devoted decades to Jewish chinuch and to strengthening Torah life in the Flatbush community.
A daughter of Rabbi Eliyahu and Rebbetzin Sora Machlis, Rebbetzin Stone grew up in a home devoted to Torah, chinuch and chesed. Her father served in rabbanus and chinuch in Cleveland and Staten Island before leading Yeshivah Ohel Moshe in Brooklyn for four decades. Her mother, herself an accomplished educator and popular lecturer, helped build a home in which Torah and caring for others were central values.
Rebbetzin Stone served as principal at Yeshivah Ohel Moshe in Brooklyn, where she educated generations of students, and was also a popular Torah lecturer for women.
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Avraham Stone, and her children, Rabbi Levi Stone (Norwalk, CT), Rabbi Yisrael Stone (Lower East Side, New York), R’ Mendy Stone (Crown Heights), and Mrs. Malkie Rivkin (New Orleans, LA).
The levaya will take place Monday, 4 Elul, August 17. It will pass Yeshivah Ohel Moshe at 12:15 PM, Congregation Adas Yeshurun at 12:30 PM, the Stone family home at 12:45 PM, and 770 Eastern Parkway at 1:30 PM. Kevurah will take place near the Ohel at 2:30 PM.
The family will sit shiva at 2215 Avenue I in Brooklyn.
