Rabbi Yossi Wilansky, a dedicated and beloved pre-1A teacher at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Montreal for over 45 years, passed away on Sunday night, 3 Iyar.

Rabbi Yossi Wilansky, a dedicated and beloved pre-1A teacher at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Montreal for over 45 years, passed away on Sunday night, 3 Iyar.

He was 71 years old.

Rabbi Wilansky was born to his parents, Rabbi Yehoshua and Nechama Wilansky, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where his father served as a teacher at the Jewish school. After several years, at the Rebbe’s advice, the family relocated to Crown Heights to provide proper chinuch for the children.

He married Malke, the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchok Hendel, Rov of the Chabad community of Montreal, where the couple settled.

Rabbi Wilansky was known as a dedicated and beloved mechanech at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Montreal. For over 45 years, he taught the pre-1A and gave children a love for Torah.

Last year, he celebrated his 70th birthday with his beloved students.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Malke Wilansky, and their children: R’ Mendy Wilansky – Montreal, R’ Dovid Leib Wilansky – Baltimore, Sarah’le Lesches – Montreal, Rivky Perl – Crown Heights, R’ Eli Wilansky – Pittsburgh, R’ Yaakov Wilansky – Roslyn, New York, R’ Moshe Wilansky – Florida, Chaya Gottlieb – Crown Heights, R’ Sholom Wilansky – Kingston, PA, Toby Wolf – Crown Heights, R’ Boruch Wilansky – Las Vegas, R’ Shmuel Wilansky – Puerto Rico, R’ Noach Wilansky – Crown Heights, R’ Yissochor Tzvi Wilansky – Crown Heights, and many grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Rabbi Dovid Wilansky – Elizabeth, NJ; Rabbi Moshe Wilansky – Portland, Maine; Rabbi Chaim Wilansky – Crown Heights; and Mrs. Toby Halon – Crown Heights.

The levaya will take place on Monday, April 20, 2026 – 3 Iyar 5786, at about 3:30 PM, by Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Montreal. 6405 Westbury
