Excitement is building across the Jewish world ahead of the dedication of the ninth Children’s Sefer Torah, set to take place at the Kosel in Yerushalayim on Monday, 20 Menachem Av, the yom hilula of the Rebbe’s father Harav Levi Yitzchak.
In recent weeks, registrations have surged dramatically. During the past week alone, 2,039 children in Eretz Yisroel have bought letters in the Sefer Torah, together with 1,459 children from countries around the world.
The Committee for the Writing of the Children’s Sefer Torah, headed by the Rebbe’s shliach Rabbi Shmuel Greisman, is completing final logistical preparations for the arrival of tens of thousands of participants, including leading rabbonim, roshei yeshivah, Shluchim, and children from across the country.
The ceremony will begin in the afternoon with the writing of the final letters at the Tzemach Tzedek Shul in the Old City of Yerushalayim. From there, a grand hachnasas Sefer Torah procession featuring torches, singing, and joyous niggunim will make its way to the Kosel, where the traditional hakafos will take place.
The Children’s Sefer Torah campaign was launched at the Rebbe’s direct instruction in the spring of 1981, with the goal of uniting Jewish children from every corner of the world through the letters of the Torah. Each Sefer Torah includes exactly 304,805 boys and girls, corresponding to the precise number of letters in a Sefer Torah.
Every child who purchases a letter for a symbolic fee becomes a partner in the Sefer Torah and receives a personalized certificate indicating the Chumash and parshah in which their letter appears.
The Rebbe repeatedly emphasized the unique spiritual power of this Sefer Torah to bring protection, bracha, and zechus to Jewish children and to Klal Yisroel as a whole.
Many parents are using these final days to register their children, including newborns and infants born only recently, so they will not miss the historic opportunity to become part of the ninth Children’s Sefer Torah.
