America’s fastest-growing city will soon be getting a new Chabad center with the appointment of Rabbi Mendel and Rikki Hertz as the new shluchim to South Austin, Texas.
Austin is rated the fastest growing city in America, with over 60 people moving in daily. South Austin has few Jewish organizations, and the Hertzs say they are looking forward to providing Jewish opportunities to the hundreds of families that live there.
Rabbi Hertz told Anash.org that there are estimates of thousands of Jews living in the South Austin area, with more arriving every day. The new shluchim hope to be able to reach every Jew in their area.
The Hertzes have been appointed Shluchim under Rabbi Yosef Levertov Head Shliach to the greater Austin area, and Rabbi Shimon Lazarov Head Shliach of Texas.
Establishing a new Chabad House requires substantial “seed money.” Once established, the Hertzes plan to support themselves with local help, but right now they need to raise $18,000 to jumpstart their shlichus.
