Mrs. Selma Bacher, a shlucha in Johannesburg, South Africa, and principal of the Chabad Girls High School, passed away.
She was 78 years old.
Together with her husband, Rabbi Koppel Bacher, they were a family that always had an open home and took upon themselves to become one of the major cornerstones to lay the foundation for building the Johannesburg, South Africa Chabad community.
Selma was the principal at the Chabad Girls High School as well as one of the teachers for many years. She was well respected and loved by all teachers and students.
On the day Nelson Mandela was released from prison, Rabbi and Mrs. Bacher were in New York and saw the Rebbe, who gave them a personal message for our community. “Tell them they have nothing to fear, and that South Africa will be good until the coming of Moshiach!”
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Koppel Bacher and their children Mrs. Rivky Chaikin, Rabbi Shaul Bacher Rabbi Sholom Bacher all of Johannesburg, and grandchildren.
