Moshe Laufer Releases Sixth Album of Chabad Niggunim
Fifteen years after the series first brought orchestral renditions of Chabad niggunim to a wide audience, Moshe Laufer has released a sixth album featuring well-known favorites alongside melodies that have rarely been recorded.
Renowned arranger Moshe Laufer and producer Levik Toboul have released “Chabad With Moshe Laufer 6,” the latest installment in a series that has become widely known across the Jewish music world.
Released in connection with Tu B’Av, the album arrives 15 years after the series began and features a new selection of Chabad niggunim arranged for a full orchestral production.
The five earlier albums sold tens of thousands of copies and became popular at homes, farbrengens and simchos. Several of the niggunim featured in the series have since become standards at Chassidic events and celebrations.
The new album brings together familiar melodies and lesser-known selections from the Chabad musical tradition. Laufer’s arrangements give each niggun a broad, contemporary sound while retaining its original melody, rhythm and character.
The featured singers are Eli Marcus, Mendy Jerufi, Yoni Shlomo and Baruch Shalom Blesofsky, with each performing selections suited to his voice and musical style.
The choir parts were recorded by the Chabad choir A-Kapelle, whose members are closely familiar with the pronunciation and musical details of Chabad niggunim. The choir was recorded in New York under the direction of musician Yossi Cohen.
Mixing was completed by Mendy Friedman and Aviv Yerimi, with mastering by sound engineer Eli Lishinsky. The album was recorded at Gal Kol and Bennett Studios.
