Levi Yosef Wagner (10) of Krefeld, Germany, learned in Yeshivas Erev about teaching others, and he decided to create his own online Cheder for children ages 7 to 10. Three times a week they met for 90 minutes, and he taught them hilchos brachos and Shabbos, siddur translation, and mastery of Rashi script.
Levi Yosef Wagner (10), son of the Shluchim in Krefeld, Germany, Rabbi Yitzchak Mendel and Rebbetzin Rachel Wagner, is growing up—like many Shluchim children—in a place without a Cheder. He attends the Yitzchak Rabbin School of the Jewish community in Düsseldorf and learns in MyShliach’s Yeshivas Erev four times a week.
“Yeshivas Erev has been a real game-changer for us,” says Rabbi Wagner. “Levi looks forward every evening to learning together with fellow Shluchim kids from across Europe, participating in Farbrengens, and, of course, joining the Raffles.” Friendships are formed online, and at the Kinus HaShluchim, the children even get to meet in person.
During one class, Levi heard a powerful teaching from his Rebbi: “Even if you know nothing more than what the first letter, Alef, looks like—you have a responsibility to share that knowledge with someone who has never seen an Alef before.”
These words deeply resonated with Levi. A few months ago, he came up with an idea: Inspired by Yeshivas Erev, he decided to create his own online evening Cheder for children ages 7 to 10.
“At first, we just thought the idea was cute and gave him our full parental support,” says Rabbi Wagner. But soon, it became clear that Levi was serious. He quickly found several students—even from England—who were eager to join.
A curriculum was needed, so Levi followed the principle: “If you know Alef, teach Alef.”
Thus, “Beis Levi” was born—an online Cheder that meets three times a week for 90 minutes via Zoom, covering:
Hilchos Brachos
Perfect mastery of Rashi script
Translation of the Siddur
A weekly focus on one of the 39 Melachos in Hilchos Shabbos
“I never imagined that kids of the same age—especially online—would actually listen for 90 minutes to another child their age,” admits Rebbetzin Wagner. But Levi had learned some tricks from Yeshivas Erev—Tickets! Students who actively participate and answer questions correctly earn tickets, which they can use at the end of the class in a raffle. The prizes? Nosh!
The results have been remarkable: “Some children who initially struggled to read Hebrew can now read Megillas Esther in Rashi script and understand why playing marbles on a sand surface is not allowed on Shabbos!”
After the upcoming vacation, Levi will continue his learning, BS”D, at Chabad Berlin. Yeshivas Erev has been an essential preparation for this next step, providing him not only with strong learning skills but also with the confidence and enthusiasm to engage in a structured Torah environment.
The Wagner family is deeply grateful to MyShliach and the Yeshivas Erev team—not only for fostering Torah learning but also for inspiring young Shluchim to pass on that inspiration. “This is exactly what the Rebbe meant with ‘If you know Alef, teach Alef!“
