Hostage Families to Light Detroit’s Public Menorah

The annual “Menorah in the D” celebration in Detroit’s downtown will be joined by Yair Moses and Ella Ben Ami, whose parents were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists during the Simchas Torah Massacre.

Yair’s mother Margalit Moses was just freed from captivity after 50 days. His father Gadi Moses is still in Gaza, and they don’t know anything about his situation.

Ella’s parents, Raz and Ohad, were captured from their homes on that fateful Simchat Torah day. Raz was released in the hostage deal, and they are waiting for Ohad to come home.

Yair and Ella will be joining Menorah in the D this Thursday, Dec 7th at 5pm to light the Menorah. They have a message to share with the world. They want us all to join them in prayer and song to bring light into the world in the face of so much darkness and pray for a miraculous freedom for their loved ones.

“Our community has a Chanukah message for them and their families in return,” says Rabbi Kasriel Shemtov, VP & Executive Director, Chabad Lubavitch of Michigan.

“Our message is that the Jewish community stands with them as their brothers and sisters. The story of Chanukah is about an impossible and miraculous victory and about a small light dispelling so much darkness. We need every member of our community to come out and show them our love, our support, our prayer, and resolve that the darkness doesn’t stand a chance. “

“Come out to be there for Yair and Ella. Come out for their parents held captive in Gaza. Come out to honor the soldiers fighting against the darkest enemy. And come out for your community here in Detroit and around the world who need your light and unity. “

The Menorah in the D celebration will be filled with light, joy, community, and solidarity. Join and hear from community leaders and dignitaries, and enjoy a fire show, strolling entertainment, giveaways, and meet and greets with NBA G-League player Ryan Turell, Detroit Pistons Extreme Team, and Mascot Hooper. There will be complimentary hot soup, snacks, cider, and marshmallow roasting over fire. And dancing dreidels, of course.
