Tens of thousands of chassidim packed the Kosel Plaza on Monday, Chof Av, for the historic siyum of the ninth Sefer Torah for Yaldei Yisroel, written at the request of the Rebbe.

Camps, bochurim, Anash, families, shluchim, and thousands of non-Lubavitchers alike came from across Eretz Yisroel to take part, in keeping with the Rebbe’s heartfelt request that everyone join in the siyum.

The day’s events began at the Tzemach Tzedek shul in the Old City of Yerushalayim, where dozens of prominent rabbonim, roshei yeshivos, and chassidishe rebbes, together with donors and organizers, were honored with writing a letter in the Sefer Torah throughout the day.

Following the conclusion of the writing of the letters, and after hagbah and gelilah, the Sefer Torah was marched in a joyous procession to the Kosel Plaza, where a stage and orchestra had been set up and thousands stood waiting.

Prominent rabbonim, shluchim, and mashpiim were honored with reciting the pesukim of Ata Hareisa, with the assembled crowd joining in.

Chief Rabbi David Yosef, former Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, and Rav of the Kosel and Mekomos Hakedoshim Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich addressed the crowd on the occasion of the historic moment. Rabbi Shmuel Greisman, chairman of the committee for the Sefer Torah for Yaldei Yisroel, recited the Shehecheyanu bracha.

Marking 50 years since the Rebbe instituted the 12 Pesukim, the pesukim were recited by children from across the world in a live broadcast streamed at the Kosel, including from 770 and the tziyun of the Rebbe’s father in Alma Ata.

A special film was also produced for the children, teaching them about the pesukim and the significance of the Sefer Torah being written especially for them.

The eight hakafos were led by prominent rabbonim and dignitaries, as thousands of chassidim danced with tremendous energy and simcha, accompanied by a live orchestra and singing from Simcha Friedman, Eli Marcus, and Nemouel Harosh.
