Finding a Place Near 770 Shouldn’t Be the Hardest Part

For many Lubavitchers, arriving in Crown Heights feels like coming home. Yet one part of the trip has continued to frustrate many visitors: finding a reliable place to stay in Crown Heights.

For many Lubavitchers, arriving in Crown Heights feels like coming home. Whether for Tishrei, Yud Shevat, Gimmel Tammuz, a family simcha, or simply the opportunity to spend time in the Rebbe’s daled amos, thousands of Anash and Shluchim travel to Crown Heights every year.

Yet one part of the trip has continued to frustrate many visitors: finding a reliable place to stay in Crown Heights.

Many visitors spend hours searching through WhatsApp groups, Facebook posts, and classified listings, often unsure which apartments are still available, who to contact, or whether the listing is even up to date.

Recognizing this growing need, members of Anash developed Stayby770.org, a platform built specifically for the Lubavitch community.

Instead of browsing dozens of listings in different places, guests can search available apartments near 770, compare options, communicate directly with hosts, and submit booking requests from one organized website.

Property owners also benefit from tools designed for short-term rentals, including calendar management, booking requests, guest communication, and availability updates.

The platform was created with one goal in mind: making hospitality in Crown Heights simpler, safer, and more organized for both guests and hosts.

As more families travel throughout the year, the need for an efficient, community-focused booking platform continues to grow.

Whether visiting for a farbrengen, a family simcha, or an extended stay, Stayby770 aims to help every visitor spend less time searching—and more time focusing on the purpose of the trip.

  1. It’s sad that this has become necessary. While Crown Heights was, and still is, the hospitality capital of the Jewish world, demand has outpaced supply. There are certainly valid reasons for that: paying ever-larger mortgages and earning an honest living are just two that come to mind.

But beneath it all, I sense that some within our community have lost a measure of the willingness to sacrifice for ideals, in this case, hachnosas orchim. And, to state the obvious, this is only one example of a much broader phenomenon.

Like the king in the famous parable who ate the grain that drove everyone insane and marked his forehead beforehand, I mention this only so that the “normal” ones among us remember that we’re idealistic Chassidim, not “losers.”
