Anash.org feature: Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, Rov of Anash in London, explores interesting Torah questions and halachic dilemmas, including attracting someone else’s customers, delays on tuition commitment, and eating before havdala in Iceland.
The following issues are discussed by Rabbi Raskin in this week’s episode:
At Hodu, we were nine men. We started Davening, and shortly thereafter, the tenth man arrived. Can Kaddish deRabonon be said right away or does someone need to finish off the braysa of Reb Yishmoel aloud?[1]
When the name of Hashem name comes up in the Zohar etc. in Tikun Leil Shovuos, should it be uttered in the normal manner?[2]
Where I keep my car I need to pay for parking on a daily basis. May I ask a Goy to do this for me on Shabbos? Is there any preference that I reimburse the Goy after Shabbos?[3]
A student – who didn’t sell his Chometz – presented me with a bottle of whiskey on Shavuos. Actually, he had said before Pesach that he would give me a bottle before leaving town. Need I be concerned and therefore empty the bottle down the drain?[4]
At Maariv on Motzei Shabbos, the Chazan said the full Kaddish right after Shmoine Esrei; what should he say after ויהי נועם, ואתה קדוש? [5]
In Iceland, at this time of the year, it doesn’t really get dark, so we daven Maariv after Plag haMincha – at 11 pm! We also do so on Shabbos evening, but we make Havdolo on Sunday morning. May we eat after Maariv when it’s too early to make Havdolo?[6]
As a salesman, may I approach someone else’s clients and offer them better deals? [7]
A parent enrolled his child in a Cheder and made a monthly commitment for tuition. He has since stopped paying anything. Is that counted as acting dishonestly?[8]
Feedback: In Shiur #32, Mor was translated as Myrrh. But myrrh is extracted from a certain tree, not from the Musk-Ox (as discussed at the shiur). Indeed, what is the correct brocho for the myrrh fragrance?[9]
