Great Jewish Journeys, a new publication by Artscroll on Jewish landmarks around the world, includes a full page spread on the Ohel of the Rebbe and the Frierdiker Rebbe.

The new book is Artscroll’s latest volume in the Great Jewish Series, and features over 150 holy places around the world including shuls, yeshivos and significantly kevarim, that attract thousands of Jews worldwide.

The publication covers landmarks in Eretz Yisrael the surrounding Middle East, Europe and the USA. Most notably, the book’s American section contains a full spread on the Ohel, where the Frierdiker Rebbe and the Rebbe are interred.

“I tried to bring out stories and yesodos that we can take from each tzaddik,” explains author Rabbi Moshe Bamberger. “A ‘hu haya omer‘ – something that defined them, that is their legacy.”

The write up on the Ohel includes a story of the Frierdiker Rebbe in which the Soviet interrogators threatened him with a gun and the Rebbe responded with his famous words: “this toy impresses someone with only one world and two gods…”

Also mentioned is the many hours that the Rebbe spent there, and the countless people of all backgrounds who currently visit the Ohel, following Gimmel Tammuz.

Some readers expressed disappointment in the short paragraph given to the Rebbe, without mentioning a story, details of his life, leadership, or the revolution he led in the Jewish world. Others expressed their appreciation for the article, noting that a full page spread on Lubavitch and the Rebbeim is perhaps a first for the publishing company.

Great Jewish Journeys includes hundreds of photographs, artifacts and artwork with fascinating facts and stories about each destination. Each kever includes a brief biography, as well as inspirational material pertaining to the tzaddik’s life. Custom-designed maps of the major Jewish cemeteries throughout the world enable those actually planning visits to the kevarim to locate hard-to-find kivrei tzaddikim.
