Yet Another Homeless Shelter Proposed For Crown Heights

The new owners of a parking lot servicing visitors for nearby medical centers and hospitals, presented a proposal to the Brooklyn Community Board 9 (CB9) housing committee to build an 11-story, 135-unit homeless shelter on their lot.

Another day, another new Homeless shelter for Crown Heights.

The new owners of 245 Clarkson Avenue near Nostrand Avenue, a parking lot servicing visitors for the nearby medical centers and hospitals, presented a proposal to the Brooklyn Community Board 9 (CB9) housing committee to build an 11-story, 135-unit homeless shelter on this lot.

The proposal outlines that this would be a similar homeless shelter as the newly opened homeless shelter one block away at 329 Clarkson Ave.

It’s unclear why the neighborhood, which already has a brand new homeless shelter welcoming unstable, mentally disturbed individuals and criminals from all over to bring their issues onto our streets and lives, needs another such project.

As well, at a Government meeting, a select few members of Brooklyn Community Board 9 voiced some concerns; ultimately, the homeless shelter proposal advanced to the CB9 general meeting and passed. Just like many issue-plagued self-destructive projects in the neighborhood, once it passes the community board, it then goes for the support of elected officials—the project is then green-lighted to take effect. NYS Assembly candidate and CH resident Ahron Gluck has vowed that if elected, he will fight to shut down all the homeless shelters in the district.

The developers filed a building permit for 245 Clarkson Avenue; architect Andrew Knox of ESKW/A filed plans for a 135-unit, 131,812-square-foot project. The developer behind the 11-story Homeless shelter building is the notorious taxpayer-funded non-profit Alembic Community Development, which claims to build “Supportive Housing” with the fine print of the funding being for homeless individuals, similar to the newly opened “CAMBA Facility for persons experiencing homelessness one block away.

It is not known at the time if this will be a 135-bed Homeless shelter or if there will be “multiple beds per unit,” potentially doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the number of homeless individuals that will move into this Crown Heights shelter.

For Crown Heights and East Flatbush residents to vote for a member of anash, NYS Assembly candidate Ahron Gluck, in next month’s Democratic primary election, so he can fight to stop all these homeless shelters, you must be registered to vote as a Democrat:
