Wrapped in a Tallis, Netanyahu Davens with Milei at the Kosel

Wrapped in a white tallis, Israel Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu davened at the Kosel for the return of the hostages held in Gaza and the impending attack in Iran. Argentine President Javier Milei joined him, proclaiming loudly “Am Yisael Chai.”

Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Argentine President Javier Milei davened together at the Kosel Thursday afternoon, and were joined by Argentina’s ambassador to Israel, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Rabbi of the Kosel, Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahnish, and the Director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav.

The two leaders inserted personal notes into the stones of the Kosel and davened aloud for the return of the hostages held in Gaza, and for lasting peace and strength for Israel. Notably, Netanyahu wore a white talis during the tefillah. Preparations on the ground were highly unusual. The entire kosel plaza was completely cleared of people, and security tents were swiftly set up.

Following the davening, the two leaders toured the archaeological site beneath the Kosel, visiting the ancient tunnels beneath what Milei called “the eternal city.”

For Milei, this was his second visit to the Kosel in a matter of days. Earlier in the week, shortly after arriving in Israel on his first state visit, he went straight from the airport to daven at the kosel, in a sign of his strong affinity for the Jewish people and the land of Israel.

Earlier in the day, Netanyahu and Milei signed a significant memorandum of understanding between the two countries, strengthening cooperation and solidifying Milei’s growing alignment with Israel.

“I may be hoarse,” Netanyahu said during the ceremony, “but I believe our voices are being heard – yours and mine, and the voices of our nations.” He praised Milei, calling him “a friend of Israel, a brother, and an inspiration to the free world.”

He concluded with a vision for the future: “I hope that by your next visit, we will have brought home all the remaining hostages, including the four Argentinians still held by Hamas: Eitan Horn, the Cunio brothers, and Lior Rodaief. That will be a true simcha – and we will celebrate it together, at the new Argentine embassy in Jerusalem.”

  1. Perhaps the tallis was a reference to the Rashi on the pasukהן עם כלביא יקום, that “חוטפים את המצוות ללבש טלית” etc
