The city of Winnipeg is home to the kever of the Makarover Rebbe, Harav Shmuel Abba Twersky, who married his first cousin, also a granddaughter of the Trisker Maggid, Harav Avraham, founder of the Trisk Chassidus and the fifth son of Reb Mordechai of Chernobyl.
After the passing of his father, he became the Makarover Rebbe in Berditchev and later in Mezritch, before fleeing Ukraine due to the pogroms. He eventually settled in Winnipeg in 5687 (1927), where he faithfully led the Jewish community for two decades, earning the admiration of many, until his passing on 14 Sivan 5707 (1947). His kever is occasionally visited by various Chassidim.
This week, in honor of his yahrzeit, a group of Trisker Chassidim, along with their Rebbe from Montreal, visited the kever. After davening at the kever, they visited the local Chabad House under shliach Rabbi Avrohom Altein, where they farbrenged together and sang nigunim.
