Toronto Community Gathers to Daven for Rabbi Dovid Schochet

Members of the Lubavitcher community of Toronto gathered with rabbonim from across the city to daven for the recovery and arichus yomim of Harav Dovid Schochet, their longtime rov. 

Men, women and children from across the Toronto community joined a Hakhel gathering this past Thursday in the merit of their revered rov.

The gathering was in the merit of a refuah shleimah and arichus yomim for Harav Dovid Schochet, longtime rov and mara d’asra in Toronto, who has been serving the community with absolute dedication for over 65 years, l’orech yomim v’shanim tovos.

Organized by Rabbi Yirmi Cohen with the assistance of Rabbi Levi Zaltzman, the gathering began with children reciting the 12 pesukim and ma’amarei Chazal. It then continued with Tehillim recited by shluchim and by rabbonim from various frum communities in Toronto, including Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum, Rabbi Levi Jacobson, Rabbi Daniel Korobkin, Rabbi Shmuel Zirkind, Rabbi Yosef Oziel, Rabbi Avrohom Plotkin, and Rabbi Dov Schochet. Rabbi Yosef Gansburg led the assembled in the pesukim of Kapitel Kuf Yud Tes corresponding to Harav Schochet’s name and to kra satan.

Rabbi Yirmi Cohen encouraged the assembled to recite Harav Schochet’s kapitel – 92, whenever they could and to add in hachlatos tovos and mivtza tefillin in his merit.

A large crowd packed the shul, with only standing room remaining for the later participants.

“The size of the crowd that showed up just to daven for our rov demonstrates the reverence and love the entire community has for him, and we will continue to daven and add in mitzvos in his merit,” Rabbi Cohen told Anash.org.
