Thriller Gives Cinematic Expression to Tanya’s ‘Small City’

“Hidden Door – The Passage to the Other World” follows Yisroel, a teenager drawn into a mysterious town ruled by a cruel tyrant, in a suspenseful family film that echoes the Tanya’s image of the person as a “small city” where the inner battle is fought. A Hebrew film with English subtitles.

A new family film, “Hidden Door – The Passage to the Other World,” has been released online, bringing viewers into a suspenseful fantasy story with a message of courage, responsibility, and inner growth.

The film follows Yisroel, a teenager dealing with the confusion and inner struggles that come with growing up. His ordinary life changes when he discovers a mysterious door that leads him into a hidden world he never knew existed.

On the other side of the door, Yisroel finds himself in an ancient town ruled by a cruel tyrant. The residents live in fear, the town is gripped by oppression, and danger waits at every turn. What begins as a strange adventure soon becomes something much deeper.

As the story unfolds, Yisroel begins to realize that the town is not just another place. It is a reflection of his own inner world. The battle taking place in the ancient town mirrors the struggle taking place within himself, and freeing the town requires him to confront what is holding him back.

The storyline carries a clear Chassidus resonance, recalling the Tanya’s description of the body as an “ir ketanah,” a small city, where two inner forces struggle for control. In the film, that idea is given visual form through the mysterious town, the tyrant who seeks to dominate it, and the young protagonist who must find the strength to push back.

Yisroel is pulled into a world of danger, fear, and mystery, but the real story is what happens inside him as he learns to take responsibility and move beyond the limits that had been holding him down.

The film blends a modern storyline with an ancient setting, using fantasy and suspense to explore themes of self-control, courage, maturity, and the difficult work of becoming the person one is meant to be.

Produced and directed by Yonatan Fisher, the film was shot in several scenic locations, including Ben Shemen Forest and Kfar Hashmona’i. The cast includes Nehorai Ohayon, Oren Bazak, Moni Twister, Ijo Leibovitch, Yosef Yitzchak Fisher, David Sheletz, Yisroel Sheletz, and Leonid Nachum Sheletz.
