Tuesday, 12 Elul (25 August), marks what would have been the 40th Hebrew birthday of Rabbi Yaakov Levitan HY”D. To honour his memory, a Sydney-based weekly Tanya shiur dedicated in Yaakov’s name is encouraging people to join in ongoing Torah learning and help ensure that his name continues to inspire spiritual growth and connection.

The shiur has now reached an important milestone, completing the first 20 chapters of Tanya. Presented in an accessible and practical format, the series explores foundational teachings about the Jewish soul, faith, love of Hashem, personal spiritual struggle and the absolute unity of Hashem.

All 20 shiurim have been recorded and are available free online through Apple Podcasts and Spotify, allowing people to begin from the beginning, listen at their own pace or join the weekly class as the series continues.

“Yaakov’s absence is felt deeply, and dedicating this learning in his honour is one way of ensuring that his name continues to inspire Torah, growth and connection,” said shiur presenter Eli Gescheit.

“As we mark what would have been Yaakov’s 40th birthday, we hope people will listen to a shiur, share the series with someone else or take on additional Torah learning in his memory.”

The weekly shiur is open to people of all backgrounds and levels of learning. Each class seeks to make the Alter Rebbe’s teachings clear, relevant and applicable to everyday life.
