Rabbi Yaakov Gedalya Safranovitz, a member of the Los Angeles Chabad community and a longtime sofer, passed away on Monday 27 Av.

Rabbi Yaakov Gedalya Safranovitz a member of the Los Angeles Chabad community and a longtime sofer, passed away on Monday 27 Av.

He was 80 years old.

Rabbi Safranovitz was known as a prominent member of the Chabad community in California, and was mekarev many to the Rebbe and Lubavitch.

He is survived by his wife Tzipporah, and children, Levi Safranovitz (Los Angeles), Zevi Safranovitz (St. Louis), Esther Shabtay (Sherman Oaks, CA) and Yossi Safranovitz (Los Angeles), grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers Moishe and Avrohom Safranovitz, both from Bnei Brak.

He was predeceased by his daughter Bella Wax and his sisters Batya Minsky and Sara Tapuchi.

The levaya will be today in Los Angeles at the Chassidishe Kollel, 444 N La Brea Ave at 5:30 PM.
