Rabbi Reuven Margolin, a prominent sofer and one of the pioneers of the revival of Jewish life in Dnipro, Ukraine, passed away on Wednesday, 26 Tishrei.
Rabbi Reuven Margolin, a prominent sofer and one of the pioneers of the revival of Jewish life in Dnipro, Ukraine, passed away on Wednesday, 26 Tishrei.
He was 60 years old.
Rabbi Margolin was considered one of Europe’s leading experts in sofrus. As chief sofer of the National Sofer Center in Dnipro, he played a central role in reviving the art of sofrus across the former Soviet Union, passing on his knowledge and expertise to a new generation of sofrim.
Over the years, he was involved in the writing and restoration of numerous Sifrei Torah, contributing to the rebuilding of Jewish communities throughout Ukraine and in communities around the world.
He was also known for his meticulous observance of Chabad minhagim, which he upheld with particular care throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Margolin (Dnipro, Ukraine), and their children: R’ Daniel Aharon Margolin (Crown Heights), Sara Margolin (Montreal, Canada), Dov Ber Margolin (Dnipro, Ukraine), R’ Chaim Dovid Margolin (Eretz Yisroel), and R’ Menachem Mendel Margolin (Dnipro, Ukraine), as well as grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers, R’ Shimon Ber Margolin (San Francisco, CA) and R’ Benyomin Hirsh Margolin (Dnipro, Ukraine).
The levaya was held on Wednesday at the Jewish section of the Zaporizhzhia Cemetery in Dnipro.
