Rabbi Moshe Shaikevitz, shliach and director of Beit Chabad in Milan, Italy, and patriach of a large Lubavitch family, passed away Thursday night, 5 Cheshvan, 5781.

He was 61 years old.

Rabbi Shaikevitz was born in 5719 to his parents R’ Dovber and Rivkah Shaikevitz of Kfar Chabad. As a bochur, he learned in the yeshiva in Kfar Chabad before traveling to learn by the Rebbe in New York.

Upon reaching marriageable age, a shidduch was suggested for Rabbi Shaikevitz with Soshi, daughter of head shluchim to Italy Rabbi Gershon Mendel and Bassie Garelik.

A number of years after their marriage, in 5748, the couple moved to Milan, Italy, to direct the Beit Chabad Milan, newly established in memory of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, who had just passed away.

Rabbi Shaikevitz stood at the helm of the Beit Chabad for 32 years, later establishing Yeshivas Heichal Menachem of Milan along with boys’ and girls’ camps. He was known for being a true example of a chassidishe shliach, and had a close relationship with many in the Milan community and beyond.

He is survived by his wife Soshi, and their children: Chana Heller – Crown Heights, Mrs. Freidel Wilshansky – Milan, Italy, Mrs. Chaya Mushka Schtroks – Buenos Aires, Argentina, Zalman Shaikevitz – Kyiv, Ukraine, Levi Shaikevitz – Milan, Italy, Meir Shaikevitz – Rome, Italy, Chezi Shaikevitz – Crown Heights, Heni Gurevitz – Villeurbanne, France, Mrs. Shaina Simpson – Crown Heights, Brochi Shaikevitz – Milan, Italy, Sholom Shaikevitz – Milan, Italy, Shmulik Shaikevitz – Milan, Italy, Leibele Shaikevitz – Milan, Italy, and grandchildren.

He is also survived by his parents R’ Dovber and Rivkah Shaikevitz. The family requests that his parents not be informed.

Baruch Dayan Haemes.
