Qatar’s Emir Welcomes Shluchim at Royal Palace
Shluchim Rabbi Mendy Chitrik and his son Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik joined Iran’s Chief Rabbi Yehuda Gerami for a visit to Lusail Palace in Doha, where they offered condolences to Qatar’s emir and discussed Jewish life in the country.
A delegation from the Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States was received Monday morning by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in his office at Lusail Palace in Doha.
The delegation came to offer condolences to the emir, the ruling family, and the people of Qatar following the passing of his father and predecessor, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The visit was led by Rabbi Mendy Chitrik, the Rebbe’s shliach in Istanbul, rabbi of the city’s Ashkenazi community, and chairman of the Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States.
He was joined by his son, Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, who serves the Jewish community and the many Jewish visitors to Qatar, and Iran’s Chief Rabbi Yehuda Gerami.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi also attended the meeting.
The Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States connects and supports rabbis serving Jewish communities in Muslim-majority countries. The organization represents rabbis serving approximately 110,000 Jews across 18 countries and works to strengthen Jewish religious and communal life throughout the Muslim world.
Following the meeting, Rabbi Chitrik thanked the emir for warmly receiving the delegation and for supporting Jewish life in Qatar.
“I am grateful for His Highness’s support in ensuring that Jewish life can flourish in Qatar and for enabling my son, Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, to serve the Jewish community and the many Jewish visitors to the country,” he said.
