After a focused mivtza and weeks of dedication, bochurim in Yeshivas Bais Sholom of Postville celebrated finishing Seder Moed with a grand siyum and a trip packed with a jet boat ride, rope’s course, and water tubing.
As the yeshiva zman came to an end, many of the bochurim in Yeshivas Bais Sholom of Postville increased their learning stamina. The goal: to finish the entire Mishnayos Seder Moed.
Throughout the year, the Shiur Alef and Bais mishnayos classes had diligently plowed through many of the mesechtos. They learned how to apply critical thinking skills, translate, extrapolate information, and most importantly, recognize the sweetness and beauty of limmud haTorah.
After Pesach, a new mivtza was launched. Any bochur who completed the entirety of Seder Moed in his own time would go on a grand trip, celebrating his accomplishment. There were parameters put in place to ensure that the learning was done on the same caliber that the in-class material was learned.
Just two days before yeshiva ended, an incredibly large majority of the class finished the learning. And so, off they headed to the Wisconsin Dells, where they enjoyed a packed day. To start, everyone got a relief from the blistering heat with a jet boat ride that left everyone nice and wet. This was followed by a rope’s course and, as a bonus, water tubing. Of course, there was a grand siyum lunch where one of the bochurim, Shneur Chein, had the honor of officially finishing off the seder and reciting the Hadran.
The feedback from the bochurim has been incredible. As one bochur said, “I never thought that I would ever be able to finish an entire seder of mishnayos.” A second bochur remarked that he now has only five sedorim left to finish Shas mishnayos. The boost of confidence, the knowledge that learning on a high caliber is attainable, and the sweet feeling of success will stay with these boys for years to come.
“We are so proud of all of our talmidim, seeing this huge accomplishment and all the hard work that they put in…” said Rabbi Koppel Zirkind, the menahel of the yeshiva.
