In a historic and heartwarming display of Jewish pride and unity, over 800 Jewish university students from across Russia and the former Soviet Union gathered in Shanghai, China’s largest and most prominent city, for an uplifting weekend.
The students, who had participated in a year-long Jewish learning program with local Shluchim and Shluchos, came together for the 12th annual “Yachad” Journey – an ambitious initiative led by Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, under the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS (FJC).
Held at a luxurious hotel in the heart of Shanghai, the students were treated to an uplifting Shabbos experience with lavish meals, spirited singing and heartfelt farbrengens. The Shabbos ended with a moving Havdalah ceremony that left a lasting impression on all who participated.
Throughout the trip, students also explored the city, taking in its modern skyline and historical sites. For many, it was their first time outside their home country – a physical and spiritual journey that brought Jewish identity to life in a powerful way.
With thousands of students having already participated in previous “Yachad” programs, this year’s record-breaking attendance highlights the growing thirst for Yiddishkeit among Jewish youth in the region—and the extraordinary impact of the Rebbe’s Shluchim guiding them.
