A visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel, and hearing about the global Gimmel Tammuz event so inspired a donor that he pledged to match all donations up to $36,000.
The donor, Joel Jacobs, is president of the BottleCrew packaging company. He is a renowned philanthropist as well, as frequently donates to organizations fighting hunger in Eretz Yisroel, and is also a pillar of many Chabad institutions in Michigan.
On Thursday, Joel visited the Ohel to mark Gimmel Tammuz, the Rebbe’s yom hilula. While there, he met Rabbi Mendel Shemtov, director of Vaad Or Vechom. Rabbi Shemtov told him about the global event that had taken place the night before, giving hundreds of thousands a chance to strengthen their hiskashrus, even if they couldn’t physically come to the Ohel.
Inspired by his visit and by the event, Joel pledged to donate $36,000 for Vaad Or Vechom’s activities, and challenged them to match him by raising the same amount.
“Joel wanted to make sure that the activities of Vaad Or Vechom would only increase. He therefore challenged us to raise a matching amount to ensure that the event would be the start of many good things,” Rabbi Shemtov told Anash.org
The donation was funded by Bottle Crew & Joel E Jacob Family In memory of our father & mentors Marty Jacob OBM – Detroit, MI, Melvin Rabinovitz OBM – Boston, MS, Henry Kols OBM – Baltimore, MD, Bernie Seid OBM – Cleveland, OH, Norbert Gaelen OBM – Union, NJ, Henry Riekes OBM – Omaha, NB.
