New Shluchim to the Canary Islands

A new family of shluchim is preparing to establish a Chabad presence on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa.

Rabbi Shmulik and Menucha Rochel Amar, together with their three children, will soon move to the island to open a Chabad House, providing a Jewish home for the hundreds of Jews living in the Canary Islands and the thousands of Jewish visitors who travel there each year.

The Canary Islands are among Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, with Tenerife alone attracting millions of visitors annually. Known for its year-round pleasant climate, beaches, and striking landscapes, the island draws travelers from around the world.

While hundreds of Jews reside throughout the islands, there was no permanent Chabad House operating on Tenerife, leaving both residents and visitors without a central address for Jewish life.

The new Chabad House will offer a wide range of services, including a shul and regular minyanim, Shabbos and Yom Tov meals, Torah and Chassidus shiurim, programs for children and families, access to kosher products, and Jewish events throughout the year.

Rabbi Amar was appointed to the position by Rabbi Dovid Lieberzon, the Rebbe’s shliach to Barcelona, and will work to establish a permanent Jewish center serving the local community and visitors to the region.

The announcement comes ahead of the International Kinus Hashluchim, as another family prepares to join the Rebbe’s worldwide army of shluchim.
