New Jersey Jews Connect With Their ‘Friday Boys’ at End-of-Year Event

This past Sunday, the Yeshiva in Morristown hosted Beyond the Visit, a heartfelt end-of-year event celebrating the powerful bond forged between bochurim and the baalei batim they visited on Mivtzoim weekly throughout the year.

Over 60 gathered for a morning that blended learning, inspiration, and tribute. The program opened with chavrusa learning in the Zal, where guests were paired with their “Friday boys” for meaningful chavrusas based on specially prepared content. Tours of the Yeshiva followed, giving participants a glimpse into the environment their visiting bochurim spend their week immersed in.

A brunch buffet was served as the event transitioned into the formal program.

The program was emceed by Mendel Wilhelm (Oslo, Norway), who guided the flow of the event with warmth and clarity. Rabbi Mendy Herson, dean of the Rabbinical College of America (who else covered costs of the event), opened with heartfelt remarks. A short film titled “Sensitivity”, highlighting the Rebbe’s unique approach to connecting with every Jew, set the tone for what followed.

Rabbi Chaim Shapiro, the Rosh Yeshiva, then shared personal memories of doing Mivtzoim as a bochur and expressed his admiration for the passion and dedication today’s bochurim bring to their weekly outreach.

Attendees then watched a video presentation offering a behind-the-scenes look at Mivtzoim — showcasing how a bochur takes what he learns during the week and brings it to life through connection and action.

Following the video, Mendel Rothstein shared how his personal experience on Mivtzoim has been a source of deep inspiration and growth. A baal habos then spoke, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the bochurim’s devotion and the real relationship that developed over the year.

Isser Lieblich, representing the graduating bachurim, offered parting reflections on leaving Yeshiva and the impact these experiences have had. He introduced a special gift — a book (The Secret of Chabad) chosen and presented by each bochur to the baalei batim they’ve built relationships with. He concluded with a call to action: that each person take on a hachlata, a small but real resolution, to carry the inspiration of these visits forward.

The event was spearheaded by Shmuel Dovid Mishulovin, with the help of Dovid Tzvi Walters and Mendel Seper, who worked behind the scenes to bring the program together with care and attention.

A special thanks is extended to the Morristown Mivtzoim Office, Isser Lieblich, Shmuel Dovid Mishulovin, Shimon Landa, Zachariah Evenchik and Levi Gopin, for their continued efforts throughout the year — ensuring that the Friday visits run smoothly and meaningfully week after week.

Beyond the Visit was a tribute to the relationships formed and the growth experienced by both bochurim and baalei batim — and a reminder that a small action, done consistently, can carry a powerful impact far beyond the visit.
