New App Helps Turn Hachlatos Into Daily Streaks

Chai Elul and the weeks leading up to Rosh Hashana are a time when many take on new hachlatos. A new app is aiming to help make sure those hachlatos do not disappear once Tishrei is over and regular life resumes.

Hachlata, a free app created by Lavi Klein, takes the familiar streak system used by popular learning and habit apps and applies it to hachlatos.

Users enter a hachlata, choose a symbol to represent it and check in each day that they keep it. The symbol grows as the streak continues, while users earn points for daily check-ins and reach milestones along the way.

The app can be used for hachlatos in learning, davening, halacha, minhagim, hiskashrus, community involvement or a personal area chosen by the user.

It also allows users to take on hachlatos together. Friends can create a chabura, follow one another’s streaks and encourage each other, while the private details of each person’s hachlata remain hidden. Users can also share a streak card or QR code to invite others to join.

“I didn’t want taking on a hachlata to feel like a chore,” Klein said. “You pick a symbol, you watch it grow, you do it with friends and cheer each other on. A little warmth goes a long way.”

The app was built with Shabbos and Yom Tov in mind. Streaks pause automatically, reminders are silenced, and users can resume logging after Havdala without losing their streak.

Hachlata is private by default, has no ads and does not track users.

Klein said he chose to launch the app ahead of the new year because this is precisely when many people are making new commitments.

“The hard part was never making the hachlata,” he wrote in announcing the app. “It’s holding onto it once Tishrei passes and life gets busy again.”

The app is free, with its costs supported through monthly sponsorships that can be dedicated l’iluy nishmas, for a refuah or l’zchus a simcha.
