Mrs. Chaya Leah Lapidus, a longtime shlucha to Buenos Aires, Argentina, passed away on Thursday night, 28 Iyar.

She was 70.

She was born in Buenos Aires to Shimon Fajnland (Feinland), a survivor of Treblinka. In the late 1960s, she was introduced to Lubavitch by the pioneering shliach to Argentina, Rabbi Berel Baumgarten.

She married her husband, Refoel “Rafa” Lapidus, who was also a native of Buenos Aires. Together, as shluchim of the Rebbe, they directed Chabad activities out of her father’s Yarcho Shul for over four decades, establishing themselves as pillars of the local Anash community.

She was predeceased by her sister, Adina, on 14 Adar 5775, and by her husband, Refoel Lapidus, on 12 Iyar 5783.

She is survived by her children: Chani Teitelbaum, Sherman Oaks, CA; Devori Kozlovsky, Miami, FL; and Sholom Lapidus, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She is also survived by her siblings: Malka Cohen, Mevaseret Tzion, Eretz Yisroel; and Rabbi Binyomin Fajnland, Long Beach, CA.

The New York levaya will take place on Tuesday morning at Montefiore Cemetery. Further details regarding the levaya and shiva will be announced.

Baruch dayan hoemes.
