At the 13th annual Crown Heights Women’s Circle Melava Malka, Mrs. Molly Resnick, and her daughter Mrs. Gillie Shanowitz, spoke about raising ourselves as we raise our children and how age-old chassidishe values are not only necessary, they are entirely relevant and appealing to today’s youth.
Strong chassidishe chinuch is the most potent gift we can give our children. But what if we don’t have the tools or background? Is all lost?
In a talk titled, “Raising my Mother’s Grandchildren,” Mrs. Molly Resnick and her daughter Mrs. Gillie Shanowitz spoke about raising ourselves as we raise our children. Though Mrs. Resnick did not grow up in a religious home, she surrounded herself with powerful mashpiyos who helped her grow alongside her young family. That crowdsourced chinuch, says her daughter Mrs. Shanowitz, is what enabled her to grow into the effective shlucha and mother she is today.
The duo headlined last week’s Crown Heights Women’s Circle Melava Malka, celebrating 13 years of the Circle’s impact throughout Crown Heights. Chinuch is a key component of the Women’s Circle’s mission. The mother-daughter pair told the crowd that age-old chassidishe values are not only necessary, they are entirely relevant and appealing to today’s youth.
The compelling chinuch discussion was rounded out by an inspiring Rebbe video. Child soloist, Chana Sputz, sang a heartfelt melody in her debut performance. An exquisite melava malka rounded out the evening’s offerings.
When the speakers had departed, and the tables no longer bore proof of the recent lavishness, guests got down to what the Circle does best. Groups of ladies encircled the hall in genuine camaraderie: farbrenging about what they had heard, discussing how to implement the lessons shared, and connecting on a soul level. The evening’s effects continue during weekly Wednesday Circles (9:30 am at 580 Crown) and regular events. For more information about any of the Circle’s programming, please visit chwomenscircle.com.
Throughout the year, the Women’s Circle benefits from the generosity of local establishments. Without their support, the Circle would not roll. In appreciation to Mr. Greens, Mimulo, Shabbos Fish, Tzfasman Jewelers, Everything Baby, Kettle and Cord, Sushi Spot, Chantilly, and Koshertown Cafe. Their belief in the Women’s Circle’s mission keeps it going. Thank you.
