Mosdos Join Forces to Improve Sanctity of Simchas Beis HaShoeiva

The Crown Heights Simchas Beis HaShoeiva committee, which organizes the nightly dancing on Kingston Avenue throughout Sukkos, has announced that once again no street vending of any kind will be permitted at the Simchas Beis HaShoeiva.

The announcement builds on the success of last year, when the rule was first introduced in response to some of the challenges that have arisen in recent years due to the enormous crowds, including the large number of teenagers who attend, many of whom come from out of town.

Recurring challenges have included overcrowding and mixed areas along Kingston Avenue, street vendors selling toys and snacks that draw children away from the actual dancing, and teenagers congregating on side streets rather than participating in the main event.

In a letter to the community, signed by the Crown Heights Rabbonim, principals of Crown Heights schools and mosdos, the CHJCC, the NYPD, Shomrim, Shemira, and community askonim, the organizers stressed that the policy will be strictly enforced.

No street vending of any kind will be permitted.

The NYPD and private security will enforce this policy, and all stands, booths, and tables will be removed.

“We ask parents to take this seriously and ensure that children comply”, the letter reads. “This measure is essential to protect everyone attending and to maintain clear access for emergency and law enforcement personnel.”

Over the past few months, Crown Heights Rabbonim, askonim, and NYPD representatives held a series of meetings to discuss ways to elevate the kedusha of the event and ensure that it reflects a true, authentic Chassidish atmosphere, in accordance with halacha and the Rebbe’s wishes.

Several ideas for improvement were raised, and this year, the organizers and Rabbonim are working to build on those efforts with further improvements.

“We hope these steps strengthen the true spirit of Simchas Beis HaShoeiva and ensure that the celebration is the uplifting Kiddush Hashem the Rebbe envisioned”, the letter concludes.
