A recidivist porch pirate was arrested Sunday night after attempting to steal packages from the front porch of a home in Crown Heights.

Crown Heights Shomrim received a call Sunday night that a suspicious-looking man was scouting porches in the area of Montgomery Street and Schenectady Ave, looking for items to steal.

Multiple Shomrim units responded immediately and caught the perp as he was in the act of stealing from the outside corridor of a private home.

Volunteers held the suspect until Police officers from the 71st precinct arrived and whisked him off to jail.

In recent months, Crown Heights has seen a significant rise in the number of packages stolen from front porches. Residents are urged to call 911 and Shomrim and report any suspicious activity immediately.
