‘Lamternshtik’ Thanks Crown Heights for Record Turnout
Thousands of Yidden in Sheepshead Bay received Shmurah Matzah ahead of Pesach thanks to a record turnout of Crown Heights families, bochurim, and school girls who joined Lamternshtik and Chabad of Sheepshead Bay for the Matzah campaign, distributing roughly 6,000 matzos to some 4,000 homes across the neighborhood.
Thousands of Yidden in Sheepshead Bay received Shmurah Matzah ahead of Pesach this year, thanks to an unprecedented turnout of Crown Heights families, bochurim, and school girls who joined Lamternshtik and Chabad of Sheepshead Bay for their annual Mivtza Matzah campaign.
The incredible turnout builds on a track record of successful campaigns over the past few years – from Chanukah, where hundreds of children and seminary girls flooded the neighborhood with menorahs and donuts, to Purim, where thousands of Yidden received mishloach manos at their doors, to countless other initiatives throughout the year – with Crown Heights families showing up in force each and every time.
This Pesach, in honor of the Rebbe’s birthday on 11 Nissan, Lamternshtik set an ambitious goal of 5,770 Shmurah Matzah sets. Baruch Hashem, in the end, close to 6,000 matzos were distributed!
Around 80 Anash families went out together, parents and children side by side, giving the next generation a real, lived experience of what shlichus looks like. Some 100 bochurim joined the effort across the neighborhood, and 150 girls packed onto 5 buses to bring matzah door to door.
In total, roughly 6,000 matzos were distributed – reaching approximately 4,000 homes and buildings, with additional distribution through street booths and local businesses.
For the families who participated, it was one of the most meaningful parts of their pre-Pesach preparations. Crown Heights felt the spirit of shlichus in a tangible way, and the impact on the other side was just as powerful.
“The Yidden here were overjoyed,” Rabbi Itzik Schwartz, outreach director at Chabad of Sheepshead Bay and Lamternshtik, told Anash.org. “For so many of them, receiving matzah at their door brought back powerful memories and lit up their Jewish spark. We are seeing real, tangible chizuk in emunah as a direct result of Mivtza Matzah.”
At the tefillin stand, where 4–5 Yidden typically put on tefillin each week, 12 showed up this week alone.
A big thank you to Rabbi Shlomo Cohen, the head shliach of Chabad Sheepshead Bay, for the support, guidance, and help throughout the entire process, including in this campaign. Thanks to the organizers and the incredible team of bochurim — Noam Or, Shmulik Suissa, Mendy Kishon, Shmulik Segal, Mendel Davidson, and Uri Neiman — each one contributed their part to make this campaign a success. Special thanks to Anshei Lubavitch Shul and the East Flatbush community for their full cooperation — more than 20 families came just from them!
The biggest thank you goes to all the families, bochurim, and groups of girls who came out. Your enthusiasm, warmth, and commitment made all the difference. Because of you, thousands of Yidden were able to sit down to their Pesach seder this year with Shmurah Matzah – and that is the greatest gift to the Rebbe for 11 Nissan.
“When Crown Heights comes out, you can feel it,” said Rabbi Schwartz. “The energy and warmth of the families with their children brings a huge shturem to our shlichus here.”
