Hundreds Celebrate Sukkos at Sydney’s Luna Park

Hundreds of Jewish families from across Sydney gathered at the iconic Luna Park for a Chol Hamoed Sukkos celebration, enjoying amusement rides, a sukkah overlooking Sydney Harbour, and the opportunity to bentch lulav and esrog.

Hundreds of children and their families gathered at Sydney’s iconic Luna Park for a festive Chol Hamoed Sukkos outing, combining a day of amusement rides and family fun with the mitzvos of Yom Tov.

Organized by Chabad Youth NSW, with the support of 26 local community organizations, the annual Sukkos in Luna Park event brought together Jewish families from across Sydney for a day of celebration and achdus.

A beautifully decorated sukkah was erected at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, overlooking the famous Sydney Opera House. Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to bentch lulav and esrog, enjoy kosher food in the sukkah, and celebrate Zman Simchaseinu in a unique setting.

With sunny weather and hundreds of children enjoying the park’s rides and attractions, the event offered families an opportunity to combine the joy of Yom Tov with a memorable Chol Hamoed outing.

Rabbi Elimelech Levy, director of Chabad Youth NSW, said the event was intended to bring Jewish families together while creating meaningful and enjoyable experiences for children.

“Sukkos is known as the Festival of Joy, and what better way to celebrate than seeing hundreds of children enjoying themselves with their families and friends,” Rabbi Levy said.

“There’s something very special about seeing children having the time of their lives on the rides, while just a short walk away, families are making a bracha on the lulav and esrog or sitting together in a sukkah overlooking our magnificent Sydney Harbour.

“It’s a wonderful reminder that Jewish life and tradition are not only about what we learn and observe, but also about the joy, connection and wonderful memories we create together.”

The event took place with a police presence to help ensure the safety of participants, allowing families to enjoy the festivities in a secure and welcoming environment.

Rabbi Avremi Joseph, program director at Chabad Youth NSW, thanked Luna Park management and staff for their cooperation in hosting the event and providing discounted group tickets for participating families.

“We are very grateful to the team at Luna Park for facilitating this event and making special discounted group ride tickets available to our community,” Rabbi Joseph said. “Their cooperation helps make this wonderful experience more accessible to Jewish families across Sydney.”

He also expressed appreciation to the 26 local organizations that supported the event and to NSW Police for their assistance.

For Chabad Youth NSW, the annual celebration is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Jewish identity and connection among children and families through positive Jewish experiences.

“At the heart of everything we do is the belief that every Jewish child should feel connected, included and proud of their Jewish identity,” Rabbi Levy said.

“Seeing so many families celebrating together, with such genuine happiness, is exactly what Sukkos is all about.”
