Cuomo Says Overnight Camps Can Plan On Reopening

Summer camps in New York State can plan to reopen and operate normally this summer, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today at a press conference.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that summer camps can plan on reopening this summer, so long as they have coronavirus testing protocols in place.

The governor made the announcement at his press conference on Wednesday where he announced the states’ latest efforts to combat the virus.

“As of now, overnight summer camps can plan on reopening,” he said. “That doesn’t happen until June and we hope the current trajectory stay until June 1. We’re keeping an eye on these variants of interest, but they can plan on reopening.”

The governor also said that New York’s coronavirus cases and hospitalization rates continue to decline. The state will now allow the gradual reopening of indoor entertainment and eateries. Restaurants in New York City opened at 25% capacity on Friday.

Over 2 million New Yorkers have already received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and 1.1 million already received the second dose.
