A nine-year-old Lubavitcher girl was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Thornhill, Ontario on Wednesday, 12 Tishrei, 5784.

Atara Cohen was playing outside her home when she was tragically struck by a white Ford delivery van. Atara is the beloved daughter of R’ Shimon and Henya Cohen, residents of Toronto, Canada.

The collision happened on Mullen Drive, in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Bathurst Street, shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The driver involved remained on the scene for the investigation. Photos from the scene show the delivery van on a residential street surrounded by police tape.

York Regional Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford posted a message on social media, conveying his condolences to the victim’s family.

“As a parent, there are no words to express my sadness and condolences for the family and friends of the 10-year-old girl tragically struck and killed in Vaughan tonight. You are all in my prayers,” Ford wrote.

She is survived by her parents R’ Shimon and Henya Cohen, and siblings. She is also survived by her grandparents Benzion Cohen and Ruth Cohen, and Reuvein and Judy Lawrence.

The levaya will take place on Thursday, 3:30 PM at Chabad Gate. Kevura at Pardes Chaim, Nachlas Chabad section.

Shiva will be observed at 299 Mullen Drive, Unit 73, until Friday.
