Yeshivas Kayitz Panama 5781 started off on a high note, with a packed schedule with daily trips, learning, and farbrenging.
After a quick overnight in Panama City, 17 Bochurim and Shluchim arrived to Boquete, last Tuesday morning. Already on the first, the bochurim visited a local chocolate factory. Using local cacao, they learned how chocolate is made from scratch and also got to taste some kosher chocolate samples prepared on site by the host Shluchim of Boquete.
Since then, it has been a full schedule: on Wednesday mini-canyon river, hot water springs and hikes in Panama’s natural settings. On Thursday, awesome white water rafting and then Friday, rock climbing and natural rock formations in the mountains. Each activity had its own set of challenges and bochurim took them on with flying colors – each one in his own level.
The learning and davening have been full of chayus, simchah and great camaraderie. Seder, Farbrengen and Rebbe videos are all part of this great program.
Before Shabbos, Bochurim got a chance to do Mivtzoim with local resident Jews, even finding some new Yidden that moved to town. During Shabbos, more local Jews met the Bochurim, as well as visiting backpackers.
Tehilim was recited for Shabbos Mevorchim with great attendance and Motzei Shabbos closed a full day with a Pizza Night. Some Bochurim have volunteered to learn baking in the local Shluchim’s bakery, waking up early in the morning to learn.
“We have a full day of activities and feel it’s 6:00pm, but then realize it’s only 12:00pm. We still have a whole day ahead of us,” was how one bochur expressed himself.
Next week Yeshivas Kayitz Panama will be headed to Bocas del Toro – the Caribbean beach town of Panama, where the exciting program will continue.
